ELISHEVA MOCH, FINE ART HAND BOUND BOOKS.

In its many forms, art has consistently accompanied Elisheva Moch through the events of her life as a record keeper and a witness to personal reflection and growth. Over the past eight years bookbinding has captured her interest in its profound ability to both tell and contain a story at the same time. The practice of piecing together a book is a constant opposition of forces between the tight control of the craft and the fluid play of texture, light, and space through the pages. Moch’s most recent work embodies themes of social control of women and reflects her interest in a psychology of women and girls.
Moch studied bookbinding at the Penland School of Crafts and was also awarded a studio assistantship in letterpress printing at Penland. Recent exhibitions include solo shows in Washington D.C., and group shows in the Denver/Boulder area. Moch received her Master’s Degree from Naropa University in 2004 in Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counseling Psychology. She has presented extensively to professional groups and psychotherapists on the theme of trauma resolution through art-making. She works with children and families as an art therapist in Denver, Colorado and teaches yoga in the ashtanga tradition.
