If photography is your passion, serious hobby, or new profession, then this class is a perfect foundation covering all the features and functions of your digital camera. Practice with camera and computer for assignments each week, using your new skills effectively and creatively. Digital SLRs or other cameras with manual settings offer the most versatility. Learn to use Adobe Photoshop to transfer, organize, and save images. Individual workstations (Mac or PC) are available.The materials fee covers a resource kit with detailed handouts as well as digital lab and studio use, along with a CD to reference at home. Loaner cameras are available for those who are still researching equipment.

BEGINNING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 1 DAY

WHAT TO BRING: Notebook. Laptop if available, loaded with any version of Adobe Photoshop.
Step into the world of Adobe Photoshop. Learn about the creative functions available to you with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, Mac or PC. Learn to control Image Size for print and email, and learn to use Layers, Levels, Selections, Filters, Effects, Clone Tool, Magic Wand and more in Adobe Photoshop Elements. You will also find these tools in all recent versions of Photoshop if you do not have Elements (most workstations are loaded with Elements).

Work in-depth with the Adobe Photoshop tools and their options in versions from Elements to CS. Each week you’ll learn new tools and techniques to enhance your photographs and prepare them for print, web or email. Discover handy functions to keep you organized without frustrating your creative energy. Our 4 week format includes valuable assignments that will confirm your understanding. 
CONTEMPLATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography as a spiritual practice. When you slow down your mind you will be surprised as to what will appear before you just waiting to be photographed. We will learn different meditation techniques, deconstruct tradtional composition, rewire your brain to see your subject differently, enjoy lots of critique, and more! Say more with less.

More magic now you can take control, revisiting the tools that were covered in the beginning classes, and you now apply their functions to realize your creative ideas in digital photography. If many of the tools in Photoshop CS are beyond your requirements, this class is for you. We’ll cover the most popular Photoshop techniques used by the majority of amateur and semi-pro photographers. THE INTIMATE LANDCAPE:

Unlock hidden secrets as we explore, chronicle and capture intimate landscapes that reveal spirit and harmony in nature. See beyond the obvious to find powerful visuals unnoticed in our surroundings. We’ll cover logistics of shooting on location, equipment, and best use of available light. Greg will demonstrate large format photography and share many creative and practical tips, tricks, and tools for all formats. Bring your digital or film camera to begin the journey Friday night in our studio with a brief orientation, followed by a wandering shoot at adjacent Belmar Park to catch the evening light. Saturday morning join us for breakfast above timberline on Guanella Pass, then capture the morning light on tundra, peaks and streams.
ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY:

Architecture defines where and how we live in our surroundings. Skillful architecture photographs convey a perception and vision of that experience, and this will be your goal in this workshop. We'll ask you to use photography to define an appreciation of our built environment, working with a blend of technical and creative including a demo of Photoshop editing techniques specific to architectural photography. Practice shooting in Belmar the first day and at a special location TBA on day two. All camera formats are welcome. There will be 4x5 demo, and the 4x5 camera can be used on loan if requested. Digital tilt shift lens demo will also be given.
ALTERNATIVE PROCESSES:

Looking for an interesting print beyond the glossy inkjet coming out of your desktop printer? Well then, we have the class for you! Come join us as we explore the world of alternative and historic processes. We will begin by producing inkjet negatives to make cyanotypes, vandykes, gum bichromates and platinum/palladium prints. These historic processes have become more and more popular as an alternative to digital printing because of there execptional richness and hand crafted quality.
SEEING BEYOND SIGHT:

Seeing Beyond Sight Challenge- and beyond. What happens when you take pictures with a camera... blindfolded. We know that photography is a visual meduim, so what kicks in if you can not see? We will spend the morning meditating on our other senses, going in deep and trying to tap into the strength of these other ways of "seeing". We will then go out blindfolded to make some images with our new found senses. Greg, in addition to having taught photograph for a number of years, also holds a facilitator certification for Trace Dance frome Wilbert Alex- some of these concepts will be addressed in this class.
PHOTOGRAPHY AS A SECOND INCOME:

In this five hour seminar we will discuss common and uncommon means of earning income through photography. Basic business strategies, photography markets and individual shooting skills are among the topics to be discussed. Our goal is to honestly evaluate our individual skill level and proficieny with photographic techniques. We will also identify photographic markets and target their specific needs. This class is open to anyone with an interest in earning a supplemental income throught photography.
